Pastoral Care


As part of our health service, War Memorial Hospital offers Pastoral Care Services to assist in making a patient’s stay as peaceful and as positive as it can be.
The Hospital Chaplain is available to assist with pastoral counselling, guidance and support during regular visits or by appointment for:

  • Patients, residents of Hunter Lodge, and staff
  • Relatives and friends
  • Persons adapting to changing circumstances
  • Persons seeking to cope with loss and grief
  • Persons seeking a visit from their own Priest, Rabbi, or Pastor

Other visiting Clergy and lay people, accredited by WMH, also visit members of their own faith tradition, either on a regular or as required basis.

Chapel Times and Worship Services
Chapel is open Monday through to Friday 9.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. for Quiet Time, Reflection and Prayer.

On the 1st Sunday of each month Ecumenical Worship Services are held: patients, residents of Hunter Lodge, visitors and staff are welcome at all services. On the ward at 10.00 a.m. Level 2 Dining room and then in the Hospital Chapel at 11.00 a.m. Morning tea is available following the service at the Chapel.
